AI Consultancy Edinburgh
AI Applied is a Scottish software studio. Our registered office is Technology House, 9 Newton Place, Glasgow G3 7PR, which puts us roughly fifty minutes from Edinburgh by train and in the same legal and regulatory environment as our Edinburgh clients. That matters more than it sounds when the work touches Scottish public bodies, Scots law, or data held under Scottish records requirements.
Edinburgh is an unusual AI market
Edinburgh has genuine depth in artificial intelligence research through the University of Edinburgh, one of the oldest and strongest AI departments in the world. It also has a large financial services sector, the Scottish Government and its agencies, a significant tourism and cultural economy, and a well-established startup and scale-up community around CodeBase and the Bayes Centre.
The consequence is that Edinburgh organisations are often better informed about AI than average and correspondingly harder to sell to. People here have met researchers. They know the difference between a demo and a system. What they usually need is not education, it is delivery capacity and someone willing to be accountable for whether the thing works in production.
What we build for Edinburgh clients
- Financial services. Document and policy extraction, client communication drafting with approval workflows, model documentation and monitoring, and controls designed to survive an FCA conversation.
- Scottish public sector. Correspondence triage, case summarisation with human review, records and FOI processing, and the data engineering needed to join legacy systems. We work to Scottish Government digital standards and the Scottish public sector approach to data ethics.
- Higher education and research. Research data pipelines, document and grant processing, and student enquiry handling.
- Tourism, hospitality and culture. Demand forecasting, multilingual enquiry handling, and content operations across large asset libraries.
- Technology scale-ups. Embedding AI features into an existing product without destabilising the roadmap, plus the evaluation harness to keep quality measurable as it changes.
The Scottish regulatory context
Scotland shares UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act, but the public sector operates under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act, the Public Records (Scotland) Act, and Scottish Government procurement and digital assurance frameworks. Where a system touches health or social care data, the Scottish arrangements differ from those in England. We build with those requirements in place rather than adapting an English design afterwards.
How we work with Edinburgh clients
Same-day travel each way means we are genuinely available for in-person sessions, not just the kick-off. Discovery, process mapping, playback and go-live happen on site. Build work runs remotely with a weekly demo. For Edinburgh clients specifically, ad hoc on-site time is easy to arrange because it costs a train ticket rather than an overnight stay.
Services
